CHAPTER 8: PAST PERFECT TENSE

The past perfect tense is used to refer to actions or events that ocurred before a particular point in the past.
  • Affirmative sentence:
      subject   +   HAD  + verb in past    +  _____________
      pronoun                 participle

        ex: I didn´t want to wear a suit yesterday because I had worn one the day before

  • Negative sentence:
       subject   +  HAD  + NOT  +  verb in past   +  ___________________
       pronoun       (hadn´t)          participle

       ex:I enjoyed going to the beach last weekend because I hadn´t gone swimming in a long time.

  • Question form:
       HAD  +  subject   +   verb in past  +  ________________ ?
                   pronoun       participle
  
       ex: Had she eaten thai food before?

  • Short answers:
       Yes, +  subject pronoun  + HAD

       No,  +   subject pronoun  + HADN´T
